Lesser Festival

Historical Note

From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day. 2 Timothy 4:8           [NRSV]

King of kings and Lord of lords,
whose faithful servant Charles
prayed for those who persecuted him
and died in the living hope of your eternal kingdom:
grant us by your grace so to follow his example
that we may love and bless our enemies,
through the power of the Holy Spirit
and the intercession of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.           [CCP]

Ecclesiasticus 2:12-17 NRSV
1 Timothy 6:12-16 NRSV NIV
Psalm 31:1-5
Matthew 16:24-26 NRSV NIV

God of mercy,
who strengthened your servant Charles
to lay down his life for the rights of your Church,
grant that we may take up the cross
and bear it with gladness in the midst of the world;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.           [FAS]

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3           [NRSV]
