THE COMMANDMENTS

Either A:

Minister
Our Lord Jesus Christ said, If you love me, keep my commandments; happy are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Hear then these commandments which God has given to his people, and take them to heart. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not make for yourself any idol. God is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not dishonour the name of the Lord your God. You shall worship him with awe and reverence. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
Remember the Lord's day and keep it holy. Christ is risen from the dead: set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
Honour your father and mother. Live as servants of God; honour all men; love the brotherhood. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not commit murder. Be reconciled to your brother; overcome evil with good. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not commit adultery. Know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not steal. Be honest in all that you do and care for those in need. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not be a false witness. Let everyone speak the truth. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not covet anything which belongs to your neighbour. Remember the words of the Lord Jesus: It is more blessed to give than to receive. Love your neighbour as yourself, for love is the fulfilling of the law. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

or B:

Minister
God spoke all these words, saying, I am the Lord your God (who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage). You shall have no other gods before me. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not make for yourself a graven image (or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments). All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain (for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain). All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Six days you shall labour, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.) All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
Honour your father and your mother (that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you). All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not kill. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not commit adultery. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not steal. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. All
Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Minister
You shall not covet (your neighbour's house; you shall not covet your neighbour's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or) anything that is your neighbour's. All
Lord, have mercy on us, and write all these laws in our hearts.
