This is not intended as an exhaustive list of appropriate hymns.
There are many other
hymns which could be suitable.
There are four distinct themes in this season, as reflected in the hymns below: the Epiphany to
the Wise Men, the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, the Transfiguration of our Lord and
Missions.
An image of that heavenly light
Behold, the great Creator makes
Brightest and best of the sons of the morning
Christ is the world's true Light
Christ, upon the mountain peak
Christ, when for us you were baptized
Christ, whose glory fills the skies
Come, thou long-expected Jesus
Come, ye faithful, raise the anthem
Eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round
Fling out the banner! let it float
From all that dwell below the skies
From Greenland's icy mountains
God is working his purpose out
Hail, thou Source of every blessing
Hark! a thrilling voice is sounding
How brightly shines the Morning Star
How vain the cruel Herod's fear
I come, the great Redeemer cries
In stature grows the heavenly Child
Jesus shall reign where'er the sun
Jesus, these eyes have never seen
Joy to the world! The Lord is come
Judge eternal, throned in splendor
Light of the lonely pilgrim's heart
Lord, her watch thy Church is keeping
Not always on the mount may we
O Light of light, by love inclined
O Light of Light, Love given birth
O love, how deep, how broad, how high
O thou, who by a star didst guide
O vision blest of heavenly light
O wondrous type, O vision fair
O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness
On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry
Saw you never, in the twilight
Songs of praise the angels sang
Songs of thankfulness and praise
The first Nowell the angel did say
The heavenly Child in stature grows
The Lord is come! On Syrian soil
The people that in darkness sat
The race that long in darkness pined
The sinless one to Jordan came
Thine arm, O Lord, in days of old
Upon the holy mount they stood
Watchman, tell us of the night
What child is this, who, laid to rest
When Christ's appearing was made known
When Jesus went to Jordan's stream
Where cross the crowded ways of life
Who is this, so weak and helpless
Why, impious Herod, should'st thou fear
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness
