Today begins a solemn observance of Nine days of Prayer
for the Lambeth Conference. The following prayer can be
used each day until May 30:
O Savior Christ, in whose way of love lies the secret
of all life, and the hope of all people, we pray for
quiet courage to match this hour. We did not choose to
be born or to live in such an age; but let its problems
challenge us, its discoveries exhilarate us, its
injustices anger us, its possibilities inspire us, and
its vigour renew us, for your kingdom's sake.
Living God, you meet us in the presence of Jesus the
Christ. Prepare us for our meeting together at the
Lambeth Conference. Bless this holy meeting. Make it a
base for mission and ministry. Make it a base for peace
and unity. Make it a base for grace and generosity.
Make it a base for holiness and hospitality, and begin
with me. Amen.
